What It Covers
Brakes wear down through normal driving, and how fast depends on how and where you drive. Pads are the first thing to go; once they're thin, the metal backing plate starts contacting the rotor directly, which is what causes that metallic grinding sound. Rotors wear too, and can warp from heat if pads are left too long, which shows up as a pulsing sensation through the pedal or steering wheel.
We inspect pads, rotors, calipers, lines, and fluid condition as a system, not just the part that's making noise, since a sticking caliper or a soft brake line can wear pads unevenly and cause the same symptoms as worn-out pads on their own.
Signs To Watch For
- Squealing or grinding when braking
- Pulsing or vibration through the brake pedal or steering wheel
- Car pulls to one side when braking
- Brake pedal feels soft, spongy, or sinks toward the floor
- Longer stopping distances than usual
Why It Matters
Brakes are the one system on the car with zero margin for deferred maintenance. Worn pads take longer to stop the car and generate more heat, which accelerates rotor wear and can eventually affect the calipers and brake lines too. What starts as a simple pad-and-rotor job gets more expensive, and less safe, the longer it's ignored.
Our Approach
We inspect the full system, not just the wheel that's making noise, quote parts upfront, and explain what's actually worn versus what still has life left in it. No pressure to replace anything that doesn't need it yet.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I need pads, rotors, or both?
It depends on wear. If the rotors are still within spec they can often be resurfaced or reused with new pads; if they're too thin or warped, they get replaced. We check both and tell you honestly which one you actually need.
Why is my brake pedal soft or spongy?
Usually air in the brake lines or a fluid issue, sometimes a failing caliper or master cylinder. It should be looked at promptly since it affects stopping distance.
Do you quote the price before starting?
Yes, always. We inspect first, explain what we found, and give you a price before any work starts.
Can I just wait until my brakes are grinding to get them checked?
You can, but by the time it's grinding, you're often into rotor damage that a pad-only job wouldn't have needed. Getting it looked at at the first squeal is cheaper in the long run.
